Germany has promised to provide Ukraine with an additional EUR 200 million or $199.02 million to fund aid programs for people internally displaced by Russia’s invasion of the country, the Reuters news agency reported on Sept. 3.
German Development Minister Svenja Schulze announced the new package of German aid for Ukraine, Reuters said.
“I will speak to Prime Minister Shmyhal about how we can continue to support the Ukrainian government in caring for displaced people,” Schulze said.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is scheduled to visit Berlin on Sept. 5 where he will meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“The money is intended to help the displaced people in Ukraine to continue to be able to provide for themselves with the essentials” Schulze added.
Russia’s unprovoked attack and full-scale invasion of Ukraine has forced millions of Ukrainians to flee their homes.
The United Nations estimates that more than seven million refugees have left Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, and another seven million or more Ukrainians have become internally displaced persons.
