National Bank expects US$9 billion in remittances from Ukraine's labour migrants in 2018

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) expects remittances from Ukrainian labour migrants in 2018 will be estimated at $9 billion, which corresponds to the figure posted in 2017.

"Referring to remittances, their total amount is very close to what we had last year when we received $9 billion. This year, we're expecting approximately the same figure," NBU Deputy Governor Dmytro Sologub told a briefing on April 12.

According to the official, the regulator expects that labour migration will continue, including due to the liberalisation of employment conditions in neighbouring countries.

The National Bank estimated the private money transfers to Ukraine in 2017 at $9.3 billion, or 8.4% of GDP.
