Libyan Coast Guards on Tuesday announced to have rescued 132 migrants a day earlier, including women and children, off the coast of the city of Khoms, some 120 km east of the capital Tripoli.
"On Feb. 11, 2018, a Coast Guards patrol managed to rescue 132 illegal immigrants, including 100 men, 22 women, and 10 children," Libyan Coast Guards said in a statement.
The immigrants, who are of different African nationalities, have been taken to a reception center near Tripoli and provided with medical assistance, the statement said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the anti-illegal immigration department announced rescuing 35 illegal immigrants of different African and Asian nationalities off the country's western coast.
Due to the state of insecurity and chaos following the 2011 uprising that toppled the late leader Gaddafi's regime, Libya became a preferred point of departure for thousands of illegal immigrants wanting to cross the Mediterranean toward European shores.
