1,500 undocumented migrants entered Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first three months of 2019

In the first three months of 2019, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina discovered, in an attempt or immediate after the illegal crossing of the state border, 1,552 citizens of high migration risk and prevented 2,471 persons from entering the territory of BiH from neighboring countries, said Border Police Director Zoran Galic.

The largest number of illegal migrants come from Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, India, Libya, Algeria, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Morocco and Turkey.

Given that this year there has been a significant increase in the number of illegal migrants attempting to enter the territory of BiH compared to the previous period, Galic pointed out that the Border Police has taken measures in line with the Plan of Extraordinary Engagement of Police Officers and Equipment in Responsibility Areas of Units exposed to increased migration pressure, which implies maximum engagement of available human and technical resources.

At the meeting, interlocutors also discussed the joint projects of the Border Police of BiH and International Organization for Migration, primarily with projects related to the areas of prevention of smuggling of migrants, trafficking in human beings and cross-border crime, detection of counterfeit documents and risk analysis.
