According to a statement released by the British Home Office, 102 immigrants were detained on Friday crossing the British Channel to the UK. As a result, the number of those arrested in the last two days has reached about 192. Many of those arrested said they were Iranian citizens. Some have come from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, and Iraq.
The Dublin Regulation is a European Union (EU) law that determines which EU Member State is responsible for the examination of an application for asylum, submitted by persons seeking international protection under the Geneva Convention and the EU Qualification Directive, within the European Union.
They are likely to be returned to France via the Dublin Regulation. Under the agreement, asylum-seekers who have arrived in Europe are only allowed to apply for asylum at the place of entry into European territory. If they move to another European country, they will be returned to their country of origin in Europe.
“HM Coastguard is coordinating a search and rescue response to a number of incidents off Kent this morning, working with Border Force, Kent Police, and other partners. Lewis said that only about 5 percent of immigrants crossing the waterway have succeeded this year, which is a significant decrease compared to the same period last year (5 percent). French police have warned immigrants against using small boats to cross the blue border. Some reports suggest that the safety of immigrants aboard boats has been the calm of the sea in recent days.
Asylum Seekers to the European Union
According to the latest report by the European Union Office for Asylum Support (EASO) released in December 2018, the number of asylum applications registered in October 2018 was the highest number that year. In the past few months, the average number of asylum seekers in the European Union has been around 581,000. The number of asylum seekers declined by 10% in October, compared to the same period last year, despite a 5% increase in the number of asylum seekers in October.
According to figures from the European Union’s Office for Asylum Support, three percent of asylum seekers have been unaccompanied children between January and October last year and more than a third of them are citizens of the three countries Afghanistan, Pakistan and Eritrea.
