Over 6,000 Ghanaians die trying to flee to America

An international body on migration has revealed that over 6000 Ghanaians lost their lives to illegal migration.

Government is thus being advised to tackle the issue of illegal migration or risk losing its young population.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has revealed that close to 6000 Ghanaians risked their lives to travel oversees through the Mediterranean – a development it fears could escalate if government does not put in the needed structures to tackle the situation.

Chief of mission for the IOM in Ghana, Sylvia Lopez-Ekrah, has thereby warned of an escalated development if government fails to ensure that the develop structures needed to ensure that the issue of illegal migration in the country is brought under control.

Speaking at the inauguration of two new border posts for Agortime-Afegame and Hodzokorfe, the IOM chief argued that government would have to put in place practical steps to end the menace of illegal travels especially it means the provision of a conducive environment for the youth to thrive.

Meanwhile, president of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo has revealed that government will be liaising with international partners to find a practical way by which the menace of illegal immigration is checked.
